Tensions in Afghanistan remain high, the Taliban issues a start warning to the UK and US that they would not grant an extension to the August 31st for all Allied troops to leave the nation. The statement was issued following news reports that Boris Johnson was set to push Biden to keep troops at Kabul airport to extend the evacuation effort. It now looks increasingly unlikely that troops will remain after the current proposed red line.
Transport and retail groups have been combining in recent days to lobby the government to allow EU haulers temporary visas to ease supply chain issues. There is allegedly a shortage of 90,000 drivers causing the retail sector unable to move their goods efficiently. Some of the UK’s best known hospitality restaurants, including Nando’s and McDonalds have had to limit their menus or close stores because of the disruption caused to their supply chains.
US Vice President Kamala Harris made comments overnight that are likely to stress ties between the US and China. Harris claims that China have been using coercion and intimidation to back up unlawful claims they have been making over land in the South China Sea. Though disputes in the region are not new or uncommon, it is unusual for the US to interject however they do have military bases in the region that are strategically important to them.
